Mark Cuban is Right on TV Advertising

I have recently noticed the aggravation of raised volume on advertising moving to major channels. It used to be confined to the lesser-viewed cable channels on digital cable tiers. For me, this was only noticeable on channels like Fox Soccer Channel (FSC), but because their programming is mostly commercial free games, it is just annoying at half time breaks. This past week, it arrived on NBC in prime time, where the regular shows are loud and their advertisements are louder.

Mark Cuban blogged on this topic this weekend, saying,

This annoying “feature” is more pronounced in home theater and surround sound based systems. I can’t think of anything that pisses me off more than to be watching a TV show and to all of the sudden be blasted by a commercial from all sides of the room. Its the ultimate command to change the channel or fast forward.

He’s right on.
