Fantastic Old Photography

This weekend I made my personal discovery of online exhibits from the Library of Congress. It will certainly be a great place to spend a bored hour.

Specifically, I found one on very early color photography from Russia titled “The Empire That Was Russia: The Prokudin-Gorskii Photographic Record Recreated.” In the early 1900’s, Prokudin-Gorskii invented a camera and methodology to take color photographs that could then be projected like a slide show. Much of his work has aided in the development of motion picture projection technologies (and gained early patents in the area). The exhibit uses digital processes available today to make a sample of his images available. The quality is quite exceptional.
